22 February 2023 – Jazz in the Lights is on 11 March 2023
The City of Joburg’s exciting music festival, Jazz In The Lights will take place on Saturday, 11 March at the Joburg Zoo, between 10:00 am and 10:00 pm. The festival will include a compelling lineup of artists such as Samthing Soweto, Mandisi Dyantyis, Stogie T, African Jazz Pioneers & Mahotella Queens as well as the great Phuzekhemisi.
Patrons will be presented with a memorable, scintillating musical experience. Vuyisile Mushudulu, Director of Arts, Culture and Heritage Says, “We as a City understand the tremendous pressures that the residents must navigate lately especially considering the economic challenges and such initiatives bring the much-needed moments of tranquility and equanimity that the facility of quality music brings. The festival is equally a way for such to create economic opportunities for artists and creative enterprises across the value chain of the music industry.”
The past two years had a significant yet adverse impact on the arts industry, and as physical gatherings have opened again – the Jazz in The Lights Music Festival creates an exciting opportunity for families across Johannesburg and other parts of the province and country to come together and experience the magic of live music performances.
From Jazz to Maskandi all the way to Hip-Hop, the impressive line-up features a wide range of content to cater to various audiences. The music festival will feature artists such as Samthing Soweto, Mandisi Dyantyis, Thandi Ntuli, Stogie T, Dumza Maswana, Phuzekhemisi, Keenan Meyer, Neo Joshua, African Jazz Pioneers, and Mahotella Queens, and many more.
While the musical experience is the highlight of the event, it has been curated so that families can enjoy a variety of activities for all ages throughout the day. Families will have the freedom of movement to explore and view the animals in the zoo and to also participate in all the other experiences the zoo has to offer. These include the farmyard where children can see and touch friendly farm animals as well as the education center where families can get up close and personal with lions and tigers – among many other lively outdoor and indoor activities.
Visitors will also be able to purchase food and drinks and are encouraged to bring their picnic blankets, cushions, and chairs. Please note that patrons will not be allowed to bring alcoholic beverages into the venue however these will be for sale inside the festival
